In 2014, after considering the direction of his and his family’s life and goals, Rhys Wood decided to pursue his dream of having a career in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). To be able to make this dream a reality, Rhys faced some serious hurdles. He says he had zero fitness and was dangerously overweight, he got started with his training on his own but when he reached a plateau he decided to get help from a Personal Trainer to get better results and also to get someone that could help guide and encourage him along the way.
Goals
Rhys’ goal was to lose at least 20 kg and to bring his fitness up to Defence standards. His specific goals due to the RAAF fitness test were to be able to complete 30 push ups in 2 minutes, complete 57 sit ups, run 2.4 km in 12 minutes 18 seconds, as well as reach level 6.5 on the 20 meter shuttle-run beep test.
Turned his life around
When Rhys first started he could barely jog for a minute without stopping and he barely managed ten push ups. He is feeling and looking better and fitter than he had ever imagined. Rhys enjoys working out hard and pushing himself to new limits, he is absolutely stuffed by the end of every session but is happy because he knows he has put in a 100% every time and by doing so growing stronger both physically and mentally. Now he not only comfortably meets the RAAF fitness requirements, but Rhys is following his dream and has been accepted into RAAF training program.
