Sydney Running

Sydney Harbour BridgeSydney’s Eastern Suburbs

Australia is blessed with some of the world’s most scenic running routes in the world and Sydney’s Eastern Suburb is no exception. From Rushcutters Bay all the way to Watsons Bay along the coastal  route from Bondi Beach to Maroubra, there is no shortage of Sydney icons along the way.

One of our favourite routes takes in the sights of Rose Bay, views of the Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House (as we ascend the dreaded Heartbreak Hill) the Pacific Ocean along the South Head (Christison Park) and finally Neilson Park before heading back home for a final glimpse of the city skyline as we thankfully now descend the “Hill” that doesn’t seem quite as bad going the other way.

Follow this route for a spectacular tour of some of Sydney’s most iconic sights:

Sydney– Head East on New South Head road along the Rose Bay foreshore until you reach the intersection to Old South Head Rd.

Be sure to take a look around as you head up the hill so you don’t miss a spectacular view of the city.

There are some hidden staircases on the way in case you need an extra challenge as you climb the hill (Fernleigh Ave,  Ashgate Ave).

– Cross Old South Head Rd at the intersection and head toward Christisen Park, following the path all the way across the south cliffs.

Christisen Park has an “outdoor gym” to break up your run.

Or simply absorb the breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean.

– Follow Old South Head Road to the very end and turn left into Hopetoun Ave.

– Continue on this windy road through one of Sydney most prestigious suburbs until you reach Wenworth Rd, turn right and follow until you reach Coolong Rd, take a left turn and continue until you reach Neilson Park.  This is a great place to take a break for coffee or even a quick swim.

Sydney beach– From here, there are buses to take you back toward the city or simply head out along Vaucluse Avenue and back down New South Head Rd.
