Trainer Bio – Troy Symons

img_6177For our second instalment of Trainer Bios, we feature our Gold Coast Studio PT Manager Troy Symons.

Troy’s interest in Fitness and Health began in Adelaide when he started training in the martial art of Muay Thai when he was just 16 years old. He learnt how to block, throw a proper punch, the various forms of Thai kicks and self discipline. He relished the fitness he gained and how healthy he felt. By the age of 19, Troy had risen through the ranks and was now teaching other youngsters proper Muay Thai form and technique.

A few years later, Troy’s passion for health and fitness drove him to the decision to move to Queensland and on a journey to a career as a Personal Trainer. Having been a trainer for years, he likes to incorporate functional training into his sessions. His sessions also have a bit of Muay Thai flair to them due to his many years training. Troy believes every workout should have a reason behind it. A reason why the client is doing the exercises and why they are benefitting the client.

Today, and for the last 3 years, Troy has been managing the studio in Nerang and the many Mobile Personal Trainers Fitness Enhancement has in their team. He is constantly looking at new challenges not only for himself, but for Fitness Enhancement as a whole.

These days, when Troy is not in the studio, you will find him at home with his beautiful wife Jessie and their gorgeous daughter Holly who is almost 3, or at the gym continuing to keep his Muay Thai skills up to scratch.

Five questions with Troy Symons:

img_6177What’s your biggest achievement as a Personal Trainer?
Taking the step from Personal Trainer, to Manger of Fitness Enhancement. This has always been my goal since I moved to Queensland so when I was given the opportunity to manage the studio, I leapt at the chance.

What’s your most memorable training session?
Training one of my clients with cerebral palsy who was wheel chair bound. When I first started training her, it was a bit of a struggle to get her to come in to the gym for a training session, but I persevered and the more she came, the more she loved it. Even though she was unable to do your more traditional style Personal Training session, we adapted what she was capable of doing and her strength and quality of life were greatly improved. She always enjoyed coming in and I always enjoyed training her.

What’s your favourite exercise as a Trainer?
Squats- you can’t go past squats for an all body workout!

What’s your favourite exercise or sport outside of work?
Muay Thai and strength training

What’s your favourite quote?
Willing is not enough we must do, knowing is not enough we must apply.
