Is 30 Minutes Enough?

30min

Many clients ask this when they start training with us at Fitness Enhancement, they are worried that 30 minutes is not going to be enough. When you ask them a few weeks later, everyone is convinced 30 minutes is definitely enough!

A lot of people have the perception that exercise has to be for at least one hour, and that if it is less than an hour you are not working hard enough. That is why a lot of people think they do not have time for exercise, an hour can be a lot to fit into a busy life. If you are training by yourself you might not be pushing yourself hard enough and giving yourself too much rest between sets and exercises, which easily can prolong your training session with 15-20 minutes. If you are training with a friend, you might be chatting a bit too much in between sets, also if you are resting while your friend is doing their sets, you are wasting useful time standing around. No wonder your session takes one hour to finish, or more!

In our 30 minute sessions, it is action from the word go! We plan the sessions with our clients so that there is no time for rest, an upper body exercise is followed by a lower body exercise so that the upper body can have a rest but we are still utilising the time. Active recovery we call this and it is many clients favourite word.

Another way to optimise time is to use so called compound exercises that activate several muscle groups in one exercise. A few examples are:

  • Squats with or without added arms (i.e. biceps curl, shoulder press)
  • Push ups
  • Lunges with or without added arms (i.e. biceps curl, shoulder press, shoulder flyes)
  • Plank
  • Step ups

By including these exercises in our work outs, using active recovery and not wasting any time on too much rest between sets, we can fit heaps into 30 minutes and with lots of variety so you will never be bored. Exhausted, but not bored.

Of course we also have 60 minute sessions both in the Fitness Enhancement Gold Coast studio and on all our mobile personal training locations. This gives us the chance to split the workout into different parts. Whether you are doing 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or our group personal training classes, we make sure that you leave the training session with a good work out behind you.
