Personal Trainer Disability Workers Screening Card

ndis disability screening card

Whether it is through the NDIS or not, if you’re a Personal Trainer working with people with disabilities, you are required to have a disability worker’s screening card. A disability worker’s screening card, the newly named national card that replaced what was previously known as a “yellow card,” is a police check to ensure you do not have a criminal history and are likely suitable to train vulnerable people with disabilities. A disability worker’s screening card is much like the blue card, which is the working with children check. And if you already have a blue card, the process is simplified to get your disability worker screening card or the yellow card (as many people still call it). It could only cost you around $100 to get a disability worker’s screening card and can be combined with your blue card if you don’t yet have one. It’s very easy and cheap to do the right thing. It’s also saying you or your staff, if you own a gym or personal training business, is also police screened and didn’t have a record. So if you get a client with a disability or a child who wants to train, having these necessary documents makes a huge difference. Hence, you don’t have to worry about turning away a client ready to work with you. This is also one extra selling point you can use to promote yourself or your business compared to someone who does not have the same cards. Whilst the vast majority of Personal Trainers are able to pass a disability screening card (yellow card or blue card), the majority have chosen not to obtain this card. This card is a great way to stand out and not have to turn away a client who requests to see a copy of it before you start working with them.

A disability worker screening card is commonly needed by any NDIS organisation that you work with. However, a disability worker screening card is not an NDIS registration. It is very different from it, as NDIS registration is an expensive and complicated process to get.
