The Worst Diets of 2015

Worst diets 2015Diets, diets, diets… The list of diets is endless, every month there is a new one that promises to be better than any of the previous ones and that has celebrities promoting it and claiming that their life, fitness and health has improved dramatically thanks to this amazing diet. In 2013, 63 % of Australians were overweight (up from 44 % since 1989), and 28% of them were obese. In combination with a bigger amount of overweight people in our country, the trend for quick fixes is getting bigger every year, the quicker the better people seem to think and they are willing to do anything to lose that weight ASAP.

The British Dietetic Association has revealed its annual list of the Top Celebrity Diets to avoid in 2015. Check out the top five below and Fitness Enhancement Gold Coast’s thoughts on them!

Which are the Worst Diets of 2015?

Urine Therapy

Drinking your own urine for cosmetic or anti-cancer effect, you would have seen Bear Grylls practice this one. There are no scientific studies supporting anti-cancer claims, and don’t worry – we do NOT recommend this one to any clients!

Paleo Diet

The Paleo Diet promotes eating like a cave man excluding dairy, grains, sugar, legumes, processed food, salt, alcohol and coffee. Excluding processed food from your diet can be of great benefit to your health and many people follow the Paleo Diet to some extent. But unless for medical reasons, there is no reason to exclude any food group completely out of your diet, this can cause more harm than good by developing nutrient deficiencies.

Sugar Free Diet

Exclude all sugar and often all carbohydrates from your diet, which means cutting out vegetables, fruit, dairy and nuts – not a balanced diet and you miss out on a lot of vitamins and minerals you need to get from these foods. However, it is a good idea to exclude sugar in form of sweets and candy, also do not add extra sugar or use products that have added sugar to skip those extra calories.

VB6 Diet

Here in Australia you might think that this means having a six-pack of VB every day! However, VB actually stands for Vegan Before 6pm which means eating like a vegan before 6pm, and after 6pm you can have anything you like. Eating well during the day with heaps of vegetables is good, but the window after 6pm opens up for a possibility to consume high calorie foods and cravings that are not healthy choices. Same here as with above diets, you need a balanced nutrition to not develop deficiencies.

The Clay Cleanse Diet

Remove toxins from your body, detox and stay fit by having one spoonful of clay per day. This is one to avoid after warnings about clay containing high levels of lead and arsenic!

Conclusion

After all that, is it not just easier to eat a mix of everything but a little bit less and move a little bit more? The team at Fitness Enhancement will not make you follow any celebrity diets, we have you to do a food diary so that we can help you tweak your diet to reach optimal results in training.
