How to stay motivated in February

January is over, you are back at work, the holiday season seems years ago, and it is easy to forget all about your New Year’s resolutions. This is the time to show that you are serious about your goals and not give up!

1. Make your goals visible

Make your goals visible by writing them down and putting them up on the fridge! If you can see your goals and be reminded of them every day it is more likely that you will follow through.

2. Reward yourself

Reward yourself in the end of each month when you have successfully followed your plan. For example; a massage, a new workout outfit, go to the movies etc.

3. Sign up for a race

To stay motivated (whether you want to or not), it is a good idea to sign up for a race of some sort, for example, a 5 k run/walk or a half marathon (or perhaps the full 42 k!). Then tell all your friends and family about it, that way there is no way out and you will need to stick with your plan.

4. Log your activity

To keep track of what you actually do, keep a log where you write down the exercise you do. In addition to that, each day that you have been good with food you put a smiley face. There should be mainly smiley faces at the end of the month. By keeping track of what you do for your health, you can keep motivated to fill out the log each day. Another thing can be to count kilometres and hours of training each month and try to beat your own results every month.

5. Be realistic

Be realistic and don’t give up because you haven’t lost 20 kg in four weeks (Biggest Loser isn’t a realistic role model!). To get results that will last you need to be stubborn and you need to create new habits that will work long-term with your lifestyle. Once you follow these new habits you will get results, don’t give up after four weeks, there are still 48 more weeks to go of the year!
