If you are looking for a bit of a different workout to get the legs going and the heart pumping, try a stair run.
Along Redcliffe shorefront there are the perfect set of stairs, all you need to do is run or walk up the stairs as fast as you can, this is your working set. Take a breath at the top before slowly walking back to the bottom, this is your recovery. Depending on your fitness level you can either take a rest at the bottom or start immediately on your working set. Do as many sets as you can in 30 minutes. The bigger the set of stairs the harder it will be. The set in Redcliffe has 50 steps, the perfect amount for a speedy workout. For the really adventurous you can run up and down the stairs to keep the heart rate up, build cardiovascular fitness, strengthen the legs and burn fat! No equipment needed just you, your runners and some good tunes to keep you motivated. On top of that, you get a great view over the bay to Moreton Island, and the sea breeze will keep you cool.
After your run you can take a nice walk along the bay to cool down or jump in the lagoon for a swim. After I did this workout I felt great, I had sore legs, I was super sweaty but felt energized the way only a good workout can make you feel. The next time I hit the stairs I’ll be looking to beat the number of sets I managed today. That way I can track my progress, and continue to work on getting faster, stronger and fitter. Redcliffe really is a beautiful place to workout, and you see so many people out and about walking their dogs, jogging or just taking in the scenery. There is a real sense of community, and when you feel like you can’t make that last set, no doubt someone will jog past and give you a bit of encouragement.
