South Africa to Brisbane
Cassie grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved to Australia at age 12 to finish her schooling in Brisbane. She had always played a range of sports growing up, and particularly enjoyed tennis and gymnastics. Since age 16 Cassie became a lot more interested in health and fitness, and began training in the gym. She decided to take her passion for fitness and turn it into a career.
Cassie completed her Personal Training qualification while she was still in school, so she was able to enter the work force straight after graduating year 12. She has been working as a Personal Trainer, group trainer since then in a variety of settings. Cassie is also a current Level 1 Sports Trainer/Medic for Sports Medicine Australia where she provides immediate first aid response as well as injury prevention and management for a range of sports including rugby union.
During her time in the fitness industry Cassie has continued her studies, she has completed a Bachelor of Exercise Science and is now working on her second Bachelor in Nutrition and Dietetics which she plans on completing in 2018.
High intensity training
Cassie’s preferred training style is high intensity training and strength/endurance with great emphasis on technique and injury prevention. She loves variety which means it is rare for her to do the same work-out more than once, unless there is a specific goal which requires repetition.
Five questions with Cassie
1. What is your biggest achievement as a Personal Trainer?
My favourite part of being a PT is the reward I get from clients achieving their goals or feeling like they really worked hard and had a sense of fulfilment from their sessions. The more enthusiastic my clients are about training, the more enthusiastic I am about ensuring they reach their potential.
2. What is your most memorable training session?
Throughout my time as a personal trainer, I can relate many stories of client success but one which comes to find and am really proud of is when I trained a client through Fitness Enhancement. His goal was to lose roughly 20kg and pass the RAAF fitness test , (Royal Australian Air Force). Over a dedicated 2 year period, he achieved his goal weight and excelled in both the fitness and theory exams to finally be accepted into the RAAF and fulfil his dream.
3. What is your favourite exercise as a trainer?
Any exercise that solely works my glutes without working my legs at the same time, such as leg abduction, donkey kick-backs, hip thrusts etc…
4 What is your favourite exercise or sport outside of work?
I enjoy trying a range of sports, but my current sport is water polo which I love! I have also recently been involved in a high intensity class called Meta-Fit which is great to smash out a full body regime in just short of 25 minutes.
5 . What is your favourite quote?
“Fitness is like marriage. You can’t cheat on it, and expect it to work”
