Kimberlee’s Story: A Story of Support, Strength and Personal Training for All Abilities

Looking for personal training that understands your ability and support needs?

Starting at a gym can feel hard when you are not sure what to do, especially when you have a disability and need extra guidance. For Kimberlee, a previous gym experience left her feeling uncomfortable and unsupported. She had tried asking for help, explaining that she had a disability and was unsure where to begin. Instead of feeling guided, she felt left on her own. That changed when she came to Fitness Enhancement. In a 100% private studio, there were no crowds and no pressure. It was just her and the trainer, with time to talk through what she could do, what she needed help with, and how exercise could be adapted around her ability.

Feeling comfortable in a private training space

For many people, the gym environment can feel overwhelming. Busy equipment areas, crowded spaces, and not knowing where to start can make exercise feel intimidating. For Kimberlee, the 100% private studio made a big difference. There was no one else around, just the trainer and her. That helped her feel more comfortable, supported, and able to focus on the session. The trainer took the time to understand her disability, her current ability,  and what she wanted to work towards.

Getting back to something she loved

One of the reasons Kimberlee wanted to start training again was basketball. She had previously played basketball and had been a Special Olympian, winning a gold medal in the sport. Over time, she missed the physical side of the game and wanted to find a way to get back into movement. When she first came to Fitness Enhancement, she said she could not pick up a basketball and had difficulty using her right hand. Through consistent training, including grip and strength work, she started to rebuild strength and function on her right side. Over time, Kimberlee noticed improvements not only in fitness, but also in day-to-day life. She said her right side had become much stronger. She was able to lift and pull more with her right hand without needing assistance from her left. She also felt she could stand on her feet for longer at work. For her, the progress was about more than exercise. It helped her feel happier, more capable, and proud of what she had improved within herself.

Support without pressure

One of the things Kimberlee valued most was the way she was supported. She felt her trainer encouraged her without pushing too far. Sessions were adapted to her resistance, comfort level, and ability, helping her feel challenged in a safe and supportive way. That kind of support can make a big difference when someone is nervous about exercise or has had a poor experience in a public gym before.

Be like Kimberlee: find a place where you feel supported

This story is a reminder that personal training should feel personal.
