Getting into her dream career
Trainer Melissa worked previously in an admin role for a mining company and after sitting in the office at the same desk for 8 years, she finally decided that it was time for a change! Every day, she couldn’t wait to finish work so she could get to the gym and to spend time outdoors. It felt natural just to combine the two of her passions and make training clients into her career instead of daydreaming about it.
Mobile Personal Trainer
Melissa relocated to the Gold Coast in 2016 from Sydney, and has been working for Fitness Enhancement ever since. Melissa works mainly as a mobile Personal Trainer, training clients in parks and in their homes, and also trains some clients in our 100% private Gold Coast studio. Melissa loves helping her clients become better versions of themselves and see them achieve their fitness goals. Her favourite training style is a combination of functional strength exercises using weights, resistance bands, body weight exercises and cardio. Melissa specialises in training seniors with the majority of her clients being in their 60s or even in their 70s!
Melissa says:
I love helping my clients improve their health and fitness and individually match the exercises I give my clients to their goals and health issues they might have.
Melissa grew up with two sporty brothers and participated in competitive sports like soccer, karate and netball from a young age. These days, Melissa enjoys powerlifting and obstacle runs in her spare time. One of her biggest accomplishments are the 4 Australian records she holds with CAPO Powerlifting for bench, squat, deadlift and overall total!
1. What is your biggest achievement as a Personal Trainer?
Seeing my clients improve their health conditions, seeing dramatic improvements in stress tests for over 70s. Watching my clients make huge improvements in their abilities in fitness tests, especially with exercises (planks etc.) that they couldn’t do at all, holding for over a minute!
2. What is your most memorable training session?
There are so many, just this week we had a kangaroo interrupt a mobile session as he came bounding up the suburban street we were training at.
3. What is your favourite exercise as a trainer?
Squats. All variations as I see them as one of the most functional exercises we can do.
4. What is your favourite exercise or sport outside of work?
Lifting weights and challenging myself with heavy singles is one of my favourite things to do. I also like to spend time on the water and am currently learning how to kite surf.
5. What is your favourite quote?
Nothing will work unless you do.
