Starting your exercise at Bancroft Park in Deception Bay, there is a beautiful 10,000 steps walk along the bay. Popular with runners, walkers, kids on bikes and dog walkers this route follows the bay all the way up to the Deception Bay library and back. There are plenty of water bubblers and toilet stops along the way, and is a lovely flat route allowing you to take in the scenery. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Glass House Mountains, and will often spot pelicans and other wild life along the way. If you are working on improving your fitness and adding more steps to your day, this is a great spot to start. Having a fixed route is a great way to monitor how your fitness is improving. Simply time yourself and see that time improve each time you do the route. If you wish to transition from walking to jogging the 10,000 steps routes are a great way to start. Download a jogging app, or use an interval timer and add short jogging intervals to your walk. Over time you’ll be able to jog more and more of the route and eventually you’ll be running the whole thing.

It’s also well lit in the evening. This route is 3.6 km and should take around 40 minutes to walk. It’s been said that adding more steps to your day can make you healthier, and any additional movement is going to help you work towards your health and fitness goals. Why not meet a friend and do the walk together while you catch up, adding more movement into both your lives. I also find that stepping out along the bay is a great way to clear my head after a long day. This area of Deception Bay also hosts a variety of kid’s parks and the beach is great place to hang out with the family. For the more advanced there is a set of steps just past the Deception Bay Library that would be perfect for doing stair runs. Start at the bottom and walk tor run to the top, walk back down and start the process again. Perfect for improving your cardiovascular fitness, leg strength and fat burning.
