Rain, rain, rain… Many let the rain disturb their training schedule and if you are lucky (or unlucky as we see it!), you might be missing out on pretty much every training session for the entire year! Is rain that dangerous? And what can we do to still get our training done?
1. Rain is water
We may be stating the obvious, but rain is water, and a bit of water is not dangerous. As long as it is not torrential you can still be doing a workout in the rain, you’ve just got to be mindful that the ground might get a little bit slippery and lower the intensity. Push ups and squats are great in rain, therefore rain is no excuse to not do the training outside.
2. Back up plan
If it is torrential downpour, have a back up plan. If you are doing your training sessions in your garden, move into your garage or even living room and complete your session inside. Better to have a back up plan in place, instead of trying to find a solution when you wake up for your 5am session and it is pouring down with rain, the risk is pretty big you will use the rain as an excuse to not train.
3. Dress appropriately
If you are scared of getting wet, there is actually protective clothing to wear in rain! Depending on where in Australia you live, it does get a bit chilly from time to time and you can wear clothes that will keep you dry and you can still workout. It’s obvious, but many people don’t think about it!
4. Don’t expect rain
Just because the weather man says rain tomorrow morning, it doesn’t mean that there is a 100% chance of rain, they are wrong sometimes the meteorologists! Don’t cancel your workout the night before just because you’re expecting it to rain, chances are it won’t be raining or just a slight drizzle and you will be fine to do your training and feel tonnes better than if you would have cancelled it. Don’t look for an excuse to cancel!
5. Embrace the rain
When you are sweaty and warm, a nice shower (of rain, not an actual shower) can be a nice refreshing break in your workout. Embrace the cool down that the rain gives you, and keep going, there is no such thing as bad weather – only different weather! And ladies, wash off the make up before the session.
