How to stay fit and healthy this Spring
Spring is officially here and now it is time to forget the excuses and make some new habits! Check out these 10 steps to take on spring in full swing! There’s no better time to start new healthy habits than this time of the year.
1. Book a physical to check up on your health
Checking that everything is going ok with your health is never a bad idea. Especially if you’re planning on starting up with a new exercise routine, make sure you have your health professional’s approval.
2. Set a schedule for your training sessions
If early morning exercise if not your thing, then try afternoons instead! Just make training a part of your weekly schedule.
3. Team up with friends or family to keep each other accountable
Having people around with similar interests and mindsets will help you get more motivated to reach your goals.
4. Buy new shoes to avoid injuries
If you’re planning on more running, walking or even strength training, make sure you have the footwear to match your plans. Good shoes will support your feet appropriately and help you to avoid injuries.
5. Clean out your pantry of old and unhealthy food – if it’s there you’ll most likely eat it!
Check for any expired food in your pantry as a part of your Spring clean. You’ll feel much better after cleaning out your kitchen for a fresh new start.
6. Stretch after every workout
Stretching after a training session is highly beneficial and will help you feel better the next day. Just remember to keep your stretches short to avoid overstretching.
7. Hit the farmers market for fresh veggies and fruit
Can you think of anything better than fresh fruit and veg in Spring?!
8. Sign up for a race to have a goal to train for
Choose a goal to suit your fitness level. If you’re not a runner, don’t sign up for a marathon. There are plenty of walks/fun runs in which you’ll be able to work at your own pace.
9. Reward yourself after you have completed a month of healthy habits
Think of new workout gear, a massage or a healthy breakfast with your friends.
10. Change your thinking to positive and think forward – not backwards!
Focus on the future and upcoming Summer! The work you do in the Spring will pay off, and you’ll get to feel amazing come to Summer.
