We’re excited to announce our latest franchisee. It’s always exciting, however this one is particularly exciting as it’s our very own manager Troy Symons!
Taking the leap from sole trader Trainer to Fitness Enhancement Studio manager to Franchisee
Troy’s jump in to his own franchise comes from being passionate about his clients success and his long held goal of being a successful business owner; “I first began as a Personal Trainer by opening my own business years ago, unfortunately the amount of clients I was able to get as a one man show didn’t match my optimism! This led me to a great job with Fitness Enhancement and all the clients I could handle. The company was nowhere near franchising when I started with them five years ago, so I was more than content with a great job, especially once I became a manager. However, the more successful I saw other Fitness Enhancement franchisees becoming over the last 6 to 10 months; the more I wanted to follow my original dream of owning my own business. I knew I couldn’t do better than the amazing franchise support and marketing from Scott and the team at head office.”
Clients from day one
Troy’s franchise closely follows fellow staff member Eli King also buying a franchise a couple of months ago in North Brisbane. Troy in particular knows our company inside out so it’s great to say he has such faith in our company that he and wife Jess (and three years old Holly!) have decided to take it to the next level with us. His mobile franchise is located throughout Beenleigh (inbetween Brisbane and the Gold Coast), and our marketing meant Troy could start with a successful business and clients from day one!
Five questions with Troy Symons:
What made you decide to become a Personal Trainer?
I’d always loved fitness and Martial Arts both as a kid and as an adult, and I liked helping people and teaching them, so it was a natural move to follow my passion and become a Personal Trainer. However I didn’t actually study to become one until my late 20’s when my wife and I decide to move to Brisbane from Adelaide. My only regret is that I didn’t become a Trainer sooner!
What are your qualifications and experience?
I have a Certificate III and IV in Fitness, level 1 strength and conditioning coach and I’m currently studying counselling in my spare time. I have 7 years proferssional experience as a Trainer and 17 years of Martial Arts experience.
What’s your most memorable training session?
Training one of my clients with cerebral palsy who was wheel chair bound. When I first started training her, it was a bit of a struggle to get her to come in to the gym for a training session, but I persevered and the more she came, the more she loved it. Even though she was unable to do your more traditional style Personal Training session, we adapted what she was capable of doing and her strength and quality of life were greatly improved. She always enjoyed coming in and I always enjoyed training her.
What’s the hardest bit of being a Personal Trainer?
To only get limited time in the sessions, some clients do only one session per week but as their Trainer you want to be there for them 24/7 and it is hard when you don’t get to see them more often.
What’s your favourite quote?
Willing is not enough we must do, knowing is not enough we must apply.
