Coolangatta Surf Breaks
Coolangatta and surrounding beaches offer excellent surf breaks, particularly off the northern corner of Coolangatta Beach, the headland around Greenmount, Snapper Rocks into the southern corner of Rainbow Bay and of course, the world-class surf break of Duranbah. D’Bah as you might hear locals say, is one place you can often find a swell when the rest of the coast is quiet. Alternatively if you’re not a surfer or you have the kiddies, the corner of Greenmount offers a protected spot for a swim.
Coolangatta Walking Tracks
A beautiful walking trail wraps around Greenmount Hill connecting Greenmount Beach to Rainbow Bay from which you can head up the hill to Point Danger. At the top is the Captain Cook Memorial. It is Queensland mainland’s most easterly point and marks the border with New South Wales where you can plant one foot in each state.
Views to the south east, Tweed River entrance to the Pacific Ocean and D’Bah Surf Beach and back to Cook Island and Fingal Lighthouse. To the north over Snapper Rocks, home of the Quiksilver and Roxy Pros, Rainbow Bay and all the way up to Surfers Paradise and South Stradbroke Island. In season it is a perfect spot for Whale watching, and a great place for sunset anytime of year.
If you want to make it a bit more challenging you can jog or run up and down the steps a few times to really get that heart rate up!
