Settlement Cove Lagoon Redcliffe

In the centre of Redcliffe is a perfect spot for an alternative workout – especially when the weather is warm! Settlement Cove Lagoon is a public pool that is open all year round, with lifeguards patrolling during the summer months.

With great facilities such as a kiddie play pool, BBQs, showers, toilets and changing facilities it it the perfect spot for a family day out. While the kids are playing you can get in a fun and challenging workout whilst staying nice and cool.

Water workout are great because the resistance of the water adds an additional element of toning whilst at the same supporting your body weight, making it perfect if you have any injuries or sore joints.

Try these exercises in the shallow end, for an full body toning workout

1. Jog in place – Find a spot that leaves you about waist deep in the water and jog in place. You’ll increase your heart rate and tone your lower body.

2. Star Jumps – Slightly deeper than your waist perform a simple star jump, again you’ll be toning your thighs whilst getting a great cardio workout.

3. Squat Jumps – You’ll want to be slightly shallower for this one. Squat down as if you were going to sit on a chair then spring up as high as you can. Another fantastic exercise for the lower body.

4. Bicycle – Lean against the edge of the pool and kick your legs as if you were pedalling a bike.

5. Kicks – Lean against the edge of the pool, and kick up and down letting the movement come from the hips rather than the knees. Try not to break the water for a more intense workout.

6. Outer Thigh Lift – Standing waist deep lift one leg out to the side in a slow and controlled movement before bringing it back down to the ground. You’ll feel the squeeze in your glutes and outer thigh. Repeat for 10 on one side before switching legs.

7. Push Ups – against the edge of the pool or on a high step perform a push up, bending at the elbows and getting as low as you can. You’ll feel this in your chest, shoulders and upper arms.

8. Pull Ups – Stand as close to the edge of the pool as you can facing out, hold on to the edge and lean back as you extend your arms. Squeeze your tummy muscles as you pull yourself back up to a standing position.
