500m running track around a giant oval with markings every 100m

Lemke Park has a 500m running track with markers every 100m, so it goes without saying that any training here is going to involve some fat burning intervals! For the unfamiliar, interval training is a fantastic way to burn fat, build muscle and generally give you a great feeling of accomplishment at the end of every session. The best part is that intervals are based of your max effort. So it’s not about how fast you do it, it’s about how much effort you put in. Here’s a great sample interval workout that anybody can do (I put my 3 and 4 year olds through their paces with this one today!) Ensure you adequately warm up before jumping into this. Safety is always paramount.

Sprint 100m (100% effort!)

Conduct a walk back recovery (walk back to your starting point, ensuring you try and slow your breathing)

Sprint 200m (90% effort)

Conduct a walk back recovery (Your distance has doubled, so your rest time is doubled. Enjoy this moment)

Sprint 400m (60-70% effort) – 400m might not sound like a long way, but this is normally where times get hard. Just remember if it was easy, everyone would be doing it!

Conduct a walk back recovery.

If you’re new to intervals, call it a day here.

Congratulations! While your workout may have taken less than 15 minutes, the results you will get from this will be awesome and you should be feeling great about what you’ve just accomplished.

Still got a bit of fight left in you? Good stuff! Finish off by conducting the exact same routine, but in reverse. Start with another 400m, followed by a 200m followed by one last all out 100m!
