Mich Schamburg Park Training Session In North Burleigh

The Mick Schamburg Park is a grassy headland that separates the North Burleigh and Miami beaches. The ocean front along North Burleigh Beach is just a few minutes up the Esplanade or the Gold Coast Highway from the popular Burleigh Heads Beach. North Burleigh is a little bit quieter, and will give you just a little bit more space, although still very popular at peak times.

North Burleigh Beach has a patrolled section between the flags just in front of the North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club, and right off the beach are green grassy parks, with playgrounds for the kids, and a variety of fitness equipment for the adults. Not to mention the walking and cycling trail running the length of the beach right down to Justin Park in Burleigh Heads and beyond.

Mick Schamburg Park has amazing views up on top of the headland at the lookout spots, you can look out to the sweeping beach views with the iconic Surfers Paradise skyline to the North, and the beautiful Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta to the South.

If you want a workout you can walk or cycle along the beach front trail and jump on the fitness equipment any time. But if you’re looking for something a little bit different, check out this short, high intensity workout in Mick Schamburg Park.

Jog Along The North Burleigh Beach

Park in the car park next to the North Burleigh Life Saving Club and warm up with a short jog along the beach. Start out on the hard sand, and work your way up in intensity by jogging into the deeper, soft sand. Jog all the way up to the headland, and then come up off the beach and onto the grass.

There is a moderately steep hill up to the lookout at the top of the headland – catch your breath at the bottom of the slope, and then run up as fast as possible without stopping all the way to the top. At the top of the slope you will find a raised, circular platform that can be used for wedding ceremonies.

Find a part of the platform wall that is the right height for you, and complete 10 step ups on each leg, followed by 10 push ups and 10 tricep dips. Walk back down the slope, and then repeat three times.

Once you have completed your slope activities, slowly jog back along the beach to your starting point, slowly decreasing your pace as you go (a gradual decrease in intensity is important to avoid over-stressing your heart)

Back at the grassy park beside the car park finish off with some abdominal exercises. Find yourself a comfortable section of grass – preferably with no ants – and lie down. Complete 10 sit ups, 10 leg raises, 10 super mans and 10 bicycle crunches. Repeat three times.

Finish off with a stretch back at the car park – and a shower if you need it!
