William Stewart Park is situated at 45A Albicore Dr, Thornlands. To get there, next to Bay FM, turn off Cleveland Redland Bay Road at the Thornlands IGA (Crystal Waters Shopping Centre). Next, turn into Island Outlook Avenue, then into Vintage Drive. The park is on the other side of the popular skate park at Thornlands Road that you see when driving down Cleveland Redland Bay Road. You can safely park your car near the corner of Vintage Drive and Margery Street.

This hidden gem of a family park has all the amenities you need to be comfortable while getting some exercise and fresh air. It features several distinct zones providing fun for all ages.

Ultimate Park Full-body Workout

Let’s start our simple and effective whole-body workout in this large parkland area! Head over to the dedicated shaded area with exercise equipment. First up, jump on the rowing machine to warm up. Push with your legs and pull with your arms; use your whole body. Row at a medium pace for 5 to 10 minutes. You’ll feel your heart pumping and work up a little sweat. Now you’re ready to do some work.

Now turn your attention to the shoulder press/lat pulldown machine. Don’t worry about the fancy names; this beauty works your upper body nicely. Just follow the instruction placard. Try 2 or 3 sets of 12 to 15 repetitions of each machine. You can do your sets on one side and then move to the other side or mix it up by doing a bunch of presses alternating with a set of pulldowns.

It’s time for some leg work. Just walk over to one of the park benches and sit down. Now stand up without keeping your hands outstretched in front of you. Just use your leg muscles. Try to keep your head upright and look straight ahead, with a straight back. Start with 2 or 3 sets of 12 to 15 squats. As you get healthier, add more squats and even an extra set.

Playground Workout

You’re not done yet; head over to this next playground to do some core and abdominal work. The variety of the equipment provides for workouts of different types.

This innocent little Machine does two things. One, it’s a heap of fun and will take you back to playing as a kid, putting a big smile on your face. Two, it delivers a surprisingly efficient abdominal workout. Grab the handles with both hands and step onto the Machine. Twist and spin yourself back and forth, or around and remember to laugh. Get your friends to take a photo and post it for us to share the fun.

You just finished a routine that literally worked every muscle in your body! Do as many rounds of this park workout circuit as you like; just remember to make it enjoyable. But just before you head home, finish off and cool down by taking a leisurely walk once around the park.
