Benefits of Swimming
Swimming is a great workout because you need to move your whole body against the resistance of the water. Swimming is great for health and fitness at all ages and all ability levels because it keeps your heart rate up but takes some of the impact stress off your body, builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness, helps maintain a healthy weight, healthy heart and lungs, tones muscles and builds strength, provides an all-over body workout, as nearly all of your muscles are used during swimming. Swimming can also improve coordination, balance and posture and improve flexibility!
Stress reliever
Swimming is not only good for physical health but it can be great for mental health too. Swimming can be a relaxing and peaceful form of exercise, it can alleviate stress, providing good low-impact therapy for some injuries and conditions and providing a pleasant way to cool down on a hot day.
The only thing swimming can’t do is increase bone density, for that you’ll need to complete weight bearing exercise. If you want help with this or any other fitness related advice check out our Southport Personal Trainers.
